The cross-border road connecting Somaliland and Ethiopia is nearing completion.

The Berbera-corridor road project that connects Somaliland’s port city of Berbera with Ethiopia’s border town of Togochale has reached 85 percent completion.

The road is expected to make Somaliland, along with Djibouti and Kenya, an emerging competitor in attracting Ethiopian importers and exporters. The road’s completion is also expected to increase trade volume between Ethiopia and Somaliland by 30%. Moreover, the project makes Berbera a gateway connecting Ethiopia to the world.

The 234-kilometer highway road project is scheduled to be completed in three phases by the end of 2022.
